Oyefusi canvasses support for female governor in Lagos
Former Senatorial Candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Princess Abiodun Oyefusi, yesterday, canvassed for a female governor in 2023 for Lagos State.
Oyefusi, who was PDP’s senatorial candidate for Lagos East in 2015, appealed to All Progressives Congress (APC) and PDP to ensure that their governorship candidates are female.
She made the call during an interactive session with journalists in Lagos, saying: “No woman has been elected as civilian governor since the Fourth Republic in 1999. It records zero per cent for gender inclusion in leadership at the sub-national level, specifically in Lagos State.”
She added that women’s inherent leadership qualities would provoke change in the state, as any society that promotes the dignity of women and offer them opportunity to thrive, is expected to experience rapid development because women were mostly family-centric.
Oyefusi further mentioned that the giant strides of women in civil service, corporate organisations and judiciary in Lagos State and beyond, validated the effectiveness of women in better transforming the state to what it is today.
