Acting Governor Adebayo Lawal of Oyo State has paid a condolence visit to the family of Mr. Ojo Peter, a journalist killed by suspected armed robbers in Ibadan
Lawal expressed deep sadness over the tragic incident that claimed his life during the visit to the late journalist’s wife and children.
Lawal was accompanied by the Commissioner for Information, Prince Dotun Oyelade; the Commissioner for Public Works and Transport, Mojeed Mogbonjubola; and leaders of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) in Oyo State.
The acting governor assured the bereaved family of the government’s support and urged journalists in the state to rally around their late colleague’s loved ones during this difficult period.
“At this juncture, I have to pray that the Lord will comfort and be with you,” he said while addressing the family.
“Ojo Peter was a professional, and he left us at his prime, though he had the prospect to become a better person in life. As a government, we recognise the efforts he put into his work while he was still alive, and we appreciate them. That is why we have a lot of his colleagues here to console the family. Whatever support can be offered will be looked into, and we will get back to the family.
“I also want to challenge all journalists here today to help this family come out of grief quickly, and the way to do that is to stand by the family,” he said.
