The Oyo State Government has announced that it pays N60 million monthly to state pensioners as part of ongoing efforts to clear outstanding arrears.

The Chairman of the State Pension Board, Tunji Adekunle, disclosed this in a statement released by the Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Dotun Oyelade, in Ibadan on Thursday.

Adekunle stated that as of April 2025, a total of 22,212 pensioners are currently on the board’s payroll.

He said the state under Governor Seyi Makinde’s administration remains committed to pensioners’ welfare, noting that pensions are paid consistently on or before the 25th of every month, alongside salaries for active workers.

“A sum of N60 million is being paid to the state pensioners monthly in a bid to clear their outstanding arrears,” Adekunle said.

He added that new pensioners are continuously added to the payroll. “Since the beginning of this year alone, the board has enrolled 142 pensioners in January, 175 in February, 171 in March, and 143 in April,” he said.

Also speaking, the Permanent Secretary of the Pension Board, Hammed Bello, praised Governor Makinde for his continued support for retirees.

Bello said that the prompt and regular disbursement of pension payments has eased the financial burden on numerous retirees and increased their confidence in the State Government.

He reaffirmed the board’s commitment to transparency, accountability, and ongoing improvements in pension administration across the state.
