Oyo lawmaker backs Makinde for 2027 presidency

Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State

A federal lawmaker from Oyo State has pledged to purchase the presidential nomination and expression of interest forms of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for Governor Seyi Makinde ahead of the 2027 elections.

Hon. Adedeji Dhikrullahi Stanley Olajide, who represents Ibadan North-West/Ibadan South-West federal constituency, made the declaration while speaking with journalists in Abuja on Saturday.

Olajide, a two-term member of the House of Representatives and chairman of the House Committee on Digital, Information Communication Technology and Cybersecurity, said Makinde remained the “poster candidate” for the PDP with the party’s ticket expected to be zoned to the South.

“Governor Seyi Makinde must take a shot at the presidency in 2027. He does not have a choice,” Olajide said through his media adviser, Tolu Mustapha. “He has the education, political experience, corporate background, international exposure, mental capacity, and, above all, a sterling record of performance as a two-term governor of Oyo State. He is the new face of Nigerian politics.”

Olajide argued that Makinde is the only opposition figure capable of matching the influence of President Bola Tinubu in the South-West and beyond. He maintained that Makinde’s governance model, which balances infrastructure with social welfare, had become a reference point for development-oriented leadership in Nigeria.

“In the entire South-West, Makinde is the major force that can face Tinubu. His political network cuts across party lines, and many political parties will collapse their structures for him,” he said.

The lawmaker added that Makinde’s candidacy would sustain the PDP’s founding vision while offering Nigerians a new brand of leadership built on competence and inclusiveness.

He urged the governor to declare his interest without delay, insisting that “history beckons on Makinde as the first Oyo State indigene to be elected President of Nigeria by 2027.”
