Oyo PDP faction alleges attack on new office
Arapaja urges peace among warring factions
The crisis rocking the Oyo State Chapter of the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) got worsened, as a faction, yesterday, alleged that its office was attacked by hoodlums.
One of the factional leaders of the party, Alhaji Adebisi Olopoeyan, confirmed the attack.
Olopoeyan, who accused a leader of the party and a leader of the Park Management System (PMS) of being behind the attack, said the hoodlums attacked the office with dangerous weapons and vadalised it.
MEANWHILE, the National Vice Chairman of South-West PDP Zone, Ambassador Taoeek Arapaja, has appealed to the warring factions to sheathe their sword and allow peace to reign in the party, warning that the party could not afford to be in disharmony as preparation for the 2023 election is gathering momentum.
He told The Guardian on the telephone, yesterday, that the leadership of the party was working tirelessly to ensure peace and unity.
However, the Publicity Secretary of the PDP, Mr. Akeem Olatunji, had on Monday denied the existence of factions in the party or any office, saying: “I don’t think there is anybody claiming to be responsible for any office. There is no PDP faction in Oyo State. We are not aware of any factional executives. We are not aware of what they are talking about. They should look within themselves.”
“There is only one united PDP in Oyo State under the leadership of Kunmi Mustapha. There is one executive council in the party. That is the only body recognised by the national body. Those people making allegations call themselves stakeholders. There are many stakeholders in the party. Who are their leaders? They don’t have any executives. There is no faction in PDP.”
A former Deputy Governor of the state and one of the leaders of the faction, Alhaji Hazeem Gbolarumi, said the party was still investigating the destruction.
He said: “Yes our office was attacked. We are still investigating those behind it.”
