Oyo state police command

The Oyo State Police Command has arrested two suspected armed robbers and recovered two pump-action rifles, cartridges and other incriminating items during a coordinated operation spanning Oyo and Ogun states.

The suspects, identified as Ibrahim Mohammed Dabban and Ndako Sulaimon, both residents of the Sabo area of Sagamu, Ogun State, were apprehended by operatives of the Safer Highway Patrol attached to the Oyo/Ogbomoso axis.

According to the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), DSP Olayinka Ayanlade, the suspects were intercepted on June 15, 2026, at about 10:48 a.m. while travelling in a gold-coloured Nissan Maxima with registration number FKJ 666 KA during a routine patrol operation.

Ayanlade said a search of the vehicle led to the recovery of one live cartridge, a cutlass, two jackknives, a handcuff, assorted fetish items, dried leaves suspected to be Indian hemp and a Soul-Safe uniform.

He noted that the items raised suspicion about the activities and intentions of the occupants, prompting their transfer for further investigation.

The police spokesman disclosed that the Commissioner of Police in the state, Abimbola Ayodeji Olugbenga, subsequently directed that the case be transferred to the Command’s Violent Crime Response Unit (VCRU) for detailed investigation.

According to him, during interrogation, the suspects allegedly made confessional statements linking them to armed robbery and other violent crimes.

Further investigations, he said, revealed that one of the suspects admitted to being in unlawful possession of a pump-action rifle allegedly obtained from an individual in Iperu, Ogun State.

Acting on the intelligence, operatives extended the investigation to Ogun State, where a follow-up operation led to the recovery of two pump-action rifles, three live cartridges and one expended cartridge from locations connected to the suspect and the alleged firearms supplier.

While the suspected supplier remains at large, the police said efforts had been intensified to apprehend him and dismantle any criminal network associated with the illegal possession and circulation of firearms.

“The Command wishes to assure members of the public that investigations remain ongoing to establish the full extent of criminal involvement and ensure that all persons found culpable are brought to justice in accordance with the law,” Ayanlade said.

The police spokesman reiterated the Command’s commitment to protecting lives and property across the state and urged residents to continue supporting security agencies with credible and timely information.
