PANDEF hosts Clark’s first memorial

Edwin Kiagbodo Clark

The Pan-Niger Delta Forum (PANDEF) has marked the first anniversary of the death of Chief Edwin Clark, describing the late statesman as a “national icon” whose contributions to Nigeria and the Niger Delta will continue to resonate for generations.

Clark passed away at the age of 98, leaving behind a legacy of public service, advocacy for regional development, and an unwavering commitment to national unity. His final words, “I am a Nigerian, I love Nigeria,” remain a testament to his lifelong dedication to the nation.

At a special memorial service held yesterday at Edwin Clark University, Kiagbodo, PANDEF members and dignitaries recalled his decades-long service as a leader, mentor, and champion for the Niger Delta and South-South region.

They highlighted his pivotal role in shaping policies that strengthened the region’s voice within Nigeria’s national framework.

Speaking at the event, the National Chairman of the Forum, Ambassador Godknows Igali, described Chief Clark as “a lionhearted statesman whose courage, vision, and integrity were unmatched.

His work for the unity and development of the Niger Delta and the nation as a whole will continue to inspire Nigerians for decades.”

In a statement he personally signed, Igali described the late Clark as a game-changer in regional and national politics.

He said he will also continue to be remembered for his mentorship and guidance to younger leaders.
