There was pandemonium yesterday at the busy Terminus area and Ahmadu Bello Way, when an officer of the Jos Metropolitan Development Board (JMDB) task force accidentally killed a colleague while attempting to drive illegal street hawkers away.

JMDB and other security personnel had been enforcing a law banning street hawking. Some hoodlums, however, resisted the order, prompting a police officer to fire a shot, which hit his colleague.

The victim was immediately taken to a hospital but was said to have died later. The area is now calm as normalcy has returned. Spokesperson for the Plateau State Police Command, DSP Alfred Alabo, was yet to comment on the incident as at press time.
