PDP wants APC’s candidate disqualified

gavelThe Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) yesterday asked a Federal High Court, sitting in Benin City, to disqualify Mr. Godwin Obaseki from participating in the governorship polls slated for Saturday.

The party alleged that Obaseki made false claims and provided deceitful information on oath to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

‎Joseph Aghimien, SAN, filed the suit on the party’s behalf and Prof. Edoba Omoregie, its legal adviser.

Joined in the suit dated September 1, 2016, are Obaseki and INEC.

The state’s chairman of the PDP, Dan Orbih disclosed this yesterday at a press conference in Benin City.

Orbih urged the electorate not to waste their votes for the APC because it has no valid candidate in the election.

‎He explained that the PDP is asking the court for a declaration that Obaseki’s statement that he graduated from the University of Ibadan with a B.A in Classical Studies in 1976, made under oath in the INEC form CF001 at Part B, paragraph C, dated July 11, 2016 is false.

As at the time of filing this report, the state’s Publicity Secretary of the APC could not be reached, as he did not pick repeated calls made to his phone.

Also, the Director General of Obaseki Campaign Organisation, Osarodion Ogie was said to be in a meeting.‎

Orbih added that apart from misleading the INEC with false information, the fact that Obaseki failed to declare if he is a member of a secret society, also disqualifies him from contesting the office as governor of Edo State.
