The Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC) in Anambra has urged residents to use pedestrian bridges and avoid crossing expressways to prevent accidents.
Deputy Corps Commander, Mrs. Christy Okonkwo, gave the advice on Saturday in Awka during a public enlightenment campaign on bridge usage.
She said the sensitisation aimed to reduce casualties and enhance the safety of all road users in the state.
Okonkwo warned that the commission would soon begin arresting individuals who refuse to comply.
“The government has provided bridges for pedestrians. Sadly, many still avoid using them.
“We are concerned about the poor usage of these pedestrian bridges by residents,” Okonkwo said.
She appealed to pedestrians to avoid crossing expressways and instead use the provided bridges for their safety.
“After this public campaign, we shall commence enforcement and arrest of defaulters,” Okonkwo stated.
She also urged residents to support the FRSC by embracing the culture of bridge use and obeying road safety laws.
