Plateau: Operation Safe Haven trains 165 persons on information gathering

Delivering his keynote address at the ceremony at Riyom Township Stadium, the Commander, OPSH, Major General Ibrahim Ali, said security of the communities required continuous collaboration and peoples’ support.

Ali said timely sharing of information with the security agencies was key to peace and security of the communities.

The commander, represented by the Deputy Commander, OPSH, DCP Mohammad Rabiu, reminded the trainees of the Oath of Allegiance to which they swore and warned them to be more vigilant and impartial in the discharge of their duties.

Earlier in his welcome remarks, the Commander, Sector 6, Riyom, Colonel Hassan Gwani, revealed that the trainees were drawn from various communities that cut across religious and ethnic backgrounds.

“The trained vigilantes are to work with the security agencies in monitoring activities of criminal elements and report accordingl,” he said.

A member representing Riyom in the Plateau State House of Assembly, Timothy Dachung and the Chairman Riyom Local Council, Mafeng Gwalson applauded OPSH for initiating measures to secure the communities.

They alluded to the improvement of the security situation in Plateau State to the new measures employed by the OPSH Commander, noting the importance of security patrols, vigilance, and continued collaboration with the community members in taming the tide of insecurity on the Plateau.

The Ata Ateh of Ganawuri, His Royal Highness, Da Yakubu Chaiman, pledged the continued support of community leaders and Riyom people to troops.

He expressed optimism in the capacity of the OPSH troops to secure the people when given the necessary support.

Highlight of the event included the presentation of writing materials to primary school pupils and oath taking ceremony, administered by the Chief Magistrate of Riyom, Justice Noknaan Dreakat.
