The Nigeria Police have arraigned a member of House of Representatives for Port Harcourt City Local Council Constituency II at the National Assembly, Chinyere Igwe, before a Federal High Court sitting in Port Harcourt on a count charge of money laundering.

According to the charge read out before the lawmaker, on February 24, 2023, he was seen the sum of $498,000, without reporting to the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN).

However, when the charge was read, Igwe pleaded not guilty to the charge and his legal representative made an application for bail, which was objected to by police counsel.

After listening to the arguments and submission by counsel, the trial Judge, Justice Stephen Daylop-Pam, adjourned the matter to March 14, 2023, for bail consideration.

He, however, directed that the accused person be sent to Nigeria Police Clinic for his medical attention following a medical report on his health.
