Those arrested are 42 armed robbers, five kidnappers and 43 sexual offenders.
According to the police, six people were killed, 40 arms, 177 ammunition and 26 vehicles were recovered, while N106,786,000 value of property was recovered within the time under review.
The spokesperson for the command, CSP Omolola Odutola, who disclosed this in a statement yesterday, said the command recorded a noticeable reduction in crime rate during the first quarter.
According to her, available records show that while the command contended with a spike in overall criminal activities in February, there was a noticeable decline in the number of cases investigated and prosecuted in March.
“Conviction of suspects across the three months is relatively stable with a downward trend in the number of suspects arrested for rape but increasing number of suspects were arrested for cult related activities due to pro-active measures emplaced by the anti-cultism unit.
“Five kidnap suspects were arrested during the period; however, there was a drastic reduction in actual kidnap incidents.
“26 stolen vehicles were recovered in the first quarter due to the vigilance of patrol teams conducting stop and search.
“Some of the drivers stole the vehicles from other states and intended to take advantage of the gateway status of the state to escape”.
“The successes and relative peace in the state are as a result of continuous assistance provided by Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, technical and logistic support provided by the Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Kayode Egbetokun, cooperation of the good people of Ogun State, collaboration with other security agencies and the unyielding effort of Ogun State Police Command,” she said.
Odutola added that the command has been able to predict crime trends and further implement strategies to prevent occurrences.
“A security shed has been established along the Sagamu-Ijebu Ode highway. For travellers’ safety, motorised patrol teams are positioned on both sides of the long bridge along the Lagos-Ibadan expressway.
“One Armoured Personnel Carrier (APC) each is stationed at Sagamu interchange, Ilaro and Ijebu Ode while two APCs’ are actively deployed to Sagamu axis and Abeokuta metropolis.
“Ogun State Police Command reiterates its commitment to sustain partnership with citizens to keep the state safe and increase investors’ confidence in undertaking business activities.
“While the command continues to address incessant attacks on commercial motorcyclists, riders are advised to prioritise personal safety by refraining from working late into the night.
“Similarly, we appeal to parents to monitor the activities of our secondary school students.
“Citizens are enjoined to follow the command’s activities on all its social media platforms for timely reporting, information sharing and prompt police intervention,” she stated.
