Police arrest eight for guard’s murder, robbery

The Anti-Kidnapping Unit of the Nigeria Police Force, Zone 2 Command, Lagos, has apprehended eight suspected armed robbers at various locations, for robbing and killing a night guard at Amuwo Odofin area of the state.

The Anti-Kidnapping Unit of the Nigeria Police Force, Zone 2 Command, Lagos, has apprehended eight suspected armed robbers at various locations, for robbing and killing a night guard at Amuwo Odofin area of the state.
According to a statement from the Police Public Relations Officer of the zone, Muyiwa Adejobi, the officer in charge of the unit got an intelligence report on the criminal activities of the suspected syndicate on August 23, 2016, planning to embark on a robbery operation at Ikotun.
“They swung into action and arrested four members of the gang that specialised in robbery, truck hijacking, diversion of trucks and breaking of warehouses in Lagos and some parts of Ogun State.”
He noted that during interrogation, additional four members of the gang were arrested, with two of them receivers of stolen goods. “These suspects carried out a robbery operation at Ajao Estate, opposite Eleganza Plaza, Lagos on May 28, 2016 where a night guard on duty was killed and aluminum sheets worth N22 million naira carted away.
“The suspects include Aniete Akonnah, Promise Friday, Happiness Promise, Obi Ebong, Silas Effiong, Monday Udoh and two receivers of the stolen goods, Ifedinachukwu Iwuola and Sumaila (Receiver),” he said.
Adejobi noted that the syndicate had caused untold hardship to many Nigerians as one of the victims of a robbery operation carried out by the suspects on August 5, told the police how her warehouse at Alakoso, Amuwo-Odofin Industrial Estate, Lagos, was burgled and goods worth N28 million carted away.
