Spokesperson for Imo State Police Command, Chief Superintendent of Police (CSP), Michael Abattam, has reiterated that policing is a collective responsibility.

He called on stakeholders to partner with the police in providing credible and timely information, stressing that there is need to form vigilante groups and neighbours watch in various communities.

Abattam stated this at a one-day youths summit on Extortion, Harassment and Human Rights Abuses organised by a Civil Society Organisation, ‘Youth and Students Advocates Development Initiative’ (YSAD), held in Owerri. He stressed that traditional rulers, religious leaders, town union presidents, youth leaders and hunters association must come together and work with the police to achieve further successes.

He stated that the Command is working hard with other security agencies to ensure that the already achieved peace being enjoyed by Imolites is sustained.

Advising the youths, he said, “they are the leaders of tomorrow, hence alot is expected of them. They equally should join hands in fighting insecurity.”

Abattam thanked the organisers of the programme for the initiative and called for more seminars, workshops and town hall meetings, where security issues would be discussed and on how best the youths can contribute positively in policing.
