The Ondo State Police Command has stated that no police station was overrun by commercial motorcyclists, popularly known as Okada riders, in the state.

The command said this to dismiss a report which it claimed was aimed at creating unnecessary panic among the public.

The police in a statement said some Okada riders stormed the Oka Division of the command to demand the release of a driver whose vehicle had an accident that led to the death of a motorcyclist.

The police disclosed said the accident which happened along Epinmi Road was reported by the driver at the Oka Division from where police officers were deployed to the scene of the incident.

The command said the corpse of the motorcyclist was moved to a morgue in Oka, adding that another injured person was taken to the hospital for medical care.

“A group of motorcyclists who witnessed the incident followed the police back to the station, demanding the release of the driver involved in the accident. The Divisional Police Officer (DPO) declined their request, explaining the need for due legal process to be followed,” the command said.

The Okada riders later dispersed peacefully after a productive dialogue, the command said.
