None of the kidnappers were, however, arrested, as they were said to have escaped before the rescue team arrived at the spot.

The victims included Femi Omisore, a Professor at the Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Ile Ife. Others are: Mrs. W. A. Abiola from Ibadan; Dr Mrs. Folasade Alade from Ekiti State University (EKSU); Dr. Mrs. Kikelomo Adegun (EKSU); Mrs. Folake Adeniyi Ayeni (Ibadan); Mrs. Aladenika Margret (Federal Teaching Hospital, Ido); Mrs. Lydia Agnes and her daughter (Adewole Estate, Ilorin); Dr Ibrahim; Dr Mrs. Yemi Abiola and one Alhaja Bili Abiola (Ibadan); Mrs. Ogunlola (Igede Ekiti); and Mr. Jimi Johnson.

The traditional ruler of the community, Oba Adebanji Ajibola, who recounted how the victims were freed, said hunters had located the kidnappers’ den following a tip-off from a woman, who said she saw an armed man in the bush.

The monarch said the police were subsequently contacted. They, in turn, joined forces with the local vigilante group and combed the expansive Esure-Eyio-Iropora-Awo forest.
