Following the death of Ifeanyi, the three-year-old son of famous singer, David Adeleke, fondly called Davido, the Lagos State Police Command has confirmed that all members of the singer’s domestic staff are currently in police custody.

The Guardian gathered that the workers were arrested early Tuesday morning after Ifeanyi, who turned three on October 20, reportedly drowned in a swimming pool at their residence in the Banana Island area of Lagos State on Monday.

The little boy was said to have been rushed to a hospital in the Lekki area of the state, where he was confirmed dead.
Davido and the mother of the boy, Chioma Rowland, were said to have travelled for a family gathering in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital, on Monday and left Ifeanyi with his minders.

Confirming the arrest, spokesperson for the Command, Superintendent of Police (SP), Benjamin Hundeyin, said eight domestic workers of Davido were brought in by the police operatives for questioning.

Hundeyin said preliminary investigation is currently ongoing to unravel what led to the boy’s death. He said: “Domestic staff at Davido’a home have been taken to the station to give their own account of what happened. I wouldn’t call that arrest yet.

“If after they all give their account of what happened and after preliminary investigations, if any of them is found culpable, the person will now be placed under arrest.”

MEANWHILE, Osun State Governor, Gboyega Oyetola,  Governor Ifeanyi Okowa of Delta State and Vice-Presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party  (PDP), have commiserated with the Adeleke family and Ace Musician Davido over the untimely death of their son.

Oyetola said: “ Sad to learn of the unfortunate passing of Ifeanyi, son of the music star, Davido. On behalf of my family and the people of Osun. I sympathise with Davido over this heart-rending incident. I know how painful it is to see a boy we all saw last week bubbling with life to now be referred to in the past. I pray God comforts you and Chioma. Rest assured , very soon, God will bless you both with another son who will live long to fulfill his dreams in life.”

In a condolence message by Delta State Commissioner for Information, Mr. Charles Aniagwu in Asaba, Okowa said the death of a loved one is usually painful, especially that of a promising young child.

“The news of the unfortunate demise of Ifeanyi Adeleke came to us as a huge shock while we were praying throughout the night to hear that it was a rumour.

“Alas, it was confirmed to be true and it’s very heartbreaking. The death of a loved one is heart-rending but the passing of a little and promising child is catastrophic. Please accept our heartfelt condolences even as we pray for the repose of his soul,” he stated.

ALSO, Osun State Chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), yesterday, announced the suspension of political activities for a week following the death of Ifeanyi Adeleke.

According to the party, the decision was to commiserate with Deji Adeleke, Davido’s father and all other members of the Adeleke family, who have been thrown into mourning over the loss of the three-year old boy.

The State Caretaker Chairman of the party, Adekunle Akindele, in a condolence message to the Adeleke family, directed all party organs and committees to suspend activities in commiseration with the family, describing the incident as “a very sad occurrence”.
