Police investigate murder of pregnant woman in Ibadan
Gloom pervaded the atmosphere in Ijefun community in Akinyele Local Government Area of Oyo State, yesterday, following the discovery of the body of a 29-year-old pregnant woman, Azeezat Dhikirulahi, in her room with her head smashed.
The Guardian gathered that the deceased, who got married to her husband three years ago, was carrying a seven-month pregnancy. She reportedly returned to Ibadan from Kano State few months ago after a visit to her husband.
Her mother-in-law, Mrs Idiat Hamzat, explained that she visited the deceased to check on her but to her shock, saw her in the pool of her blood with her head smashed. Hamzat said she immediately raised the alarm, which attracted the attention of the neighbourhood.
Also, a sister-in-law to the deceased, Shakirat Oladokun, expressed shock over the development, calling on security agents to assist the family to track down the culprits. She described the deceased as a highly religious woman who avoided trouble when she was alive, a claim which Azeezat’s neighbours corroborated.
Operatives of the Nigeria Police Force from Moniya and Ojoo Divisions, who visited the scene, took her body away. They also took away a large stone, which they suspected was used to commit the crime.
When contacted, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) in Oyo State, Olugbenga Fadeyi, confirmed the development. He said the Commissioner of Police had visited the scene, adding that investigation into the incident had commenced.
