Yobe State Police Command and other security agencies said they are ready to provide adequate security before, during and after the general elections.

Yobe State Police Command and other security agencies said they are ready to provide adequate security before, during and after the general elections.

According to the Command, there would be restrictions on movements of persons and vehicles from 6:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. on Saturday with exception of persons on essential services.

The Police Public Relations Officer of the Command, Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP), Dungus Abdulkarim, disclosed this, yesterday, in Damaturu, that voters are enjoined to go back to their homes, after casting their votes.

He said: “Quasi security outfits such as Vigilante/Hunters groups, YOROTA, Man O War, Boys Scout and Brigade, voluntary organisations and other local security outfits are exempted from participating in the elections.”

He said that the Electoral Act 2022 has prevented such security groups or outfits from providing any security during the general elections.

“Any persons found flouting electoral laws or going about with arms is liable to be apprehended and prosecuted.”

The Commissioner of Police, Haruna Garba, urged police personnel and other security agencies to abide by human rights, extant laws, rules and regulations guiding conduct of elections.

He said that the people are to cooperate with security personnel and render support to ensure peaceful and hitch-free general elections.
