Police rescue eight victims, neutralise two kidnappers in Rivers

Police operatives in Rivers State have rescued eight kidnapped victims and neutralised two suspects.
The state’s Commissioner of Police (CP), Emeka Nwonyi, who confirmed the development, yesterday, at the Police Headquarters in Port Harcourt, said operatives, on Wednesday, August 26, received information that two men were seen at a river, in Buguma, with suspected abducted victims.
According to him, operatives mobilised to the scene and the hoodlums on sighting the police took to their heels, and the two victims were rescued.
Similarly, the commissioner said police operatives, on August 15, acted on intelligence, and arrested Future Wokoma and Gift Eze of Ahoada East Local Council, who specialise in robbing citizens at the East-West Road.
He said one pump action gun was recovered from the suspects, who are foot soldiers of renowned cultists known as ‘General Danger’ and ‘Chiefo’.
Also, on August 18, operatives of the Rapid Response Team and Hawk Team, in a joint raid at Ogbonchia/Oyigbo, Rivers State, rescued a kidnapped victim who was abducted at Rumuhalu on August 17, 2023.
Nwonyi said: “On Saturday, August 19, at about 2:15 a.m., Rumuji Police Division received information from Nnamdi, a driver of a transport company located in Lagos that at about 1:20a.m., some hoodlums abducted five passengers at Rumudogo Junction at Emohua section of East-West Road.
“The Rumuji Police Division mobilised to the scene and combed the bush around and rescued five kidnapped victims.”
The CP also said operatives of the command, on August 18, rescued one victim at Rumukwashi, Obio/Akpor Local Council, kidnapped by four armed men.
He disclosed that upon receiving the information, the police patrol mobilised with members of local vigilantes and arrested one Oduenze, while two suspects were neutralized, one Toyota Corolla was recovered and the victim was rescued.
