Police rescue kidnapped eight-year old boy in Abuja

The Police in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) yesterday rescued an eight-year-old boy from his abductors, who were demanding N1 million ransom from the parents, even as they paraded the two suspects and nine others.

Parading the suspects, the FCT Commissioner of Police (CP) Wilson Inalegwu said the father of the boy informed them when the suspected kidnappers abducted the boy and later called to demand the ransom of N1 million. He bargained and ended at N250,000, which the suspects agreed
According to Inalegwu, “On receiving the information, we planned and as God will have it we had them all apprehended. They are here and they have all confessed to the crime. We retrieved part of the ransom and refunded to the father of the boy.’’

Inalegwu said boy was abducted on the March 11 while waiting to get a bus from Nyanya to Orozo, by Jeremiah Danjuma of Auta Balefi , along Abuja Keffi Way, Nasarawa State , an electrical apprentice to the second suspect, 23- years old James Emmanuel of Rafin Kwara, Masaka, Nasarawa State.

While stating that cases of kidnapping are not very common in Abuja, Inalegwu said the few incidents reported were being tackled as appropriate.

“But the most rampant case was that of ‘one chance robbery’, which has reasonably abated though some elements are still on the prowl.”

He said some police operatives attached to Life Camp Division busted and arrested two groups of suspects namely, Kingsly Ogbonna of Gwagwalada 30, Chinedu Timothy of Angwan Cement 48, Obinna Oke of Jabi Daki Biu 32, Moses Adaoga of Karimo 50, Ephraim Aguof Kado Village 63, Alexander Adams of Karimo 28, Lawrence Adams of Kado 42, Bello Lawal of Kaduna State 45, and Bahago Wada of Karimo, 60 who are said to be members of notorious ‘One Chance group’.

According to the CP, N85,000 was found on one of the groups, a three-man gang, who deceived their victims that it was the cost of acquiring money through washing chemicals. While N10,000 was found on the second group of 6 for the same purpose.

He mentioned the flashpoints of one chance operators to include some strategic places around Life Camp area, Dapo, Jabi upstairs, Angwan Cement and other neighboring places.
