The Cross River State Police Command has confirmed the rescue of the Arthur Jarvis University (AJU) student that was kidnapped two days ago in the school premises in Akpabuyo Local Council of the state.

The school, which is located 18 kilometres from Calabar, the state capital is the first private university in the state.

The Command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Irene Ugbo said the student was rescued at about 11.00pm on Thursday, by a crack team of policemen that combed the suspected kidnappers’ hideout in the creek of Akpabuyo.

Ugbo said the crack team swung into action following a directive by the State Police Commissioner, (CP) Aminu Alhassan, to fish out the criminals from their hideout and rescue the victim.

According to her, that some of the suspects were neutralised while one was arrested and “the victim is safe and currently receiving treatment.”

Ugbo said: “ We thank God. This is a great feat. A crack team of officers combed the creeks of Akpabuyo and rescued the victim at about 11.00p.m. on Thursday.

“It was based on the order of the Commissioner of Police, CP Aminu Alhassan. We thank God that the student was rescued alive. She is recovering as she is also receiving treatment at the moment.”

Ugbo warned criminals terrorising the state, saying: “This is a note of warning. We will not tolerate any form of criminality in any part of the state. No matter where they hide, we shall always smoke them out, no matter how long it takes.

“ Every kidnapper or criminal in the state must understand that we are bringing the fight to them. We are not going to allow any person or group to carry out any nefarious activity in any part of Cross River State,” she warned.

The Chancellor and Founder of AJU, Sir Arthur Jarvis Archibong commended the Police for swinging into action to rescue the student from the kidnappers.
