Police right to demand license from dog owners – Spokesperson
The Nigeria Police Force has said police officers are not out of their way to demand license from dog owners in the country.
Force Spokesperson, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, said this after a video surfaced on social media showing police officers demanding license from a man going home with his dog.
The video generated reactions from many social media users who said it was out of the right of the officers to make such a demand.
Reacting, Adejobi shared an excerpt of the law that permitted the officers to make the demand.
The excerpt read, “The Dog Law of the Federation and Lagos (1943) requires that all dogs be licensed within six months of ownership and the license badge must be attached.”
In the caption, Adejobi said, “It’s not laughable that many don’t know this. The policemen were right pls. Don’t even try to mock them at all. Thanks.”
