Police, vigilante members arrested for assaulting tricyclist in Adamawa

From Njadvara Musa, Maiduguri
The Adamawa State Police Command has arrested a police inspector and two members of a vigilante group over allegations of assault and unprofessional conduct.
The arrests followed the circulation of a viral video showing the suspects assaulting a tricyclist in what the police described as a clear case of incivility and misconduct.

Confirming the development yesterday, the command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Suleiman Yahaya Nguroje, said the incident involved a breach of operational ethics and standards expected of law enforcement personnel.

Nguroje stated that the command acted swiftly in response to the viral footage, reiterating its commitment to addressing such cases with seriousness to maintain public confidence in the police.

“This incident highlights the need for continuous vigilance and adherence to professional standards by all law enforcement agencies, including vigilante groups operating in communities,” he said. He also stressed the importance of professionalism and respect for citizens’ rights by officers of the Nigerian Police Force and their affiliates.

Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police in the state, Dankombo Morris, assured the public that a thorough investigation was underway. He pledged that appropriate disciplinary measures would be taken against anyone found culpable, in accordance with the law.
