Politicians Are Incurable Liars, Says Jonathan

FORMER President Goodluck Jonathan, yesterday, poured venom on politicians, urging youths not to be carried away by their lies, but evaluate what office seekers have done in the past.

The usually soft-spoken and reserved Jonathan said many Nigerian politicians are men of multiple faces who spin half-truths to woo voters during campaigns.

Jonathan spoke during the presentation of governorship flag by his party, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), to Bayelsa State governor, Seriake Dickson, who is seeking re-election.

The event, the grand finale of Dickson’s campaign, was held at the Samson Siasia Sports Complex, Yenagoa, and was attended by PDP leaders, faithful and officials, among whom were: Chairman of PDP Governors’ Forum and Governor of Ondo State, Dr. Olusegun Mimiko; National Chairman of the PDP, Chief Uche Secondus; and Senator Nimi Barigha-Amange.

Jonathan advised youths to vote for a person that would develop the state, saying that Dickson deserves re-election, given his giant strides in Bayelsa. He said a vote for Dickson in next Saturday’s poll is a vote for liberation, development, security and peace.

He said: “Bayelsa’s young people, do not be carried away by politicians. Politicians are people of many words. They go to so many places, talking to so many people, telling so many lies. Do not listen to what people say, but assess what they have done over the period.

“Most of the candidates are well known to you. So, it is the choice of Bayelsa’s young people to either vote for the development of this state or vote for its retrogression. It is the choice of Bayelsa’s young people to vote for the education of our youths or vote for the retrogression of our young people.”

Governor Dickson boasted to the opposition party that there is no vacancy in the Bayelsa Government House and that he would win the forthcoming election by about 99 per cent.

In his remarks, Governor Mimiko said: “The APC promised us change but we know the change they have brought to us. There are unending queues at filling stations and many things are working in the opposite. Bayelsans should shine their eyes.”
