Polytechnic sacks five teachers for allegedly impregnating student

Five teachers of the Waziri Umar Federal Polytechnic Staff School in Birnin Kebbi were yesterday dismissed for allegedly impregnating an SS3 student.

Five teachers of the Waziri Umar Federal Polytechnic Staff School in Birnin Kebbi were yesterday dismissed for allegedly impregnating an SS3 student.

This followed the committee’s report, which found them guilty of the sexual harassment.

The Guardian leant that the affected teachers had been on suspension before the committee submitted its report.

A member of the committee, who didn’t want his name in print, said the matter had attracted public outcry, as the victim could not identify the exact person responsible for the pregnancy, among the five of them who slept with her.

He disclosed that the committee, which submitted its report on Monday, recommended them for dismissal.

He said: “The management has dismissed these teachers and the victim was also expelled from the school. When the committee interrogated each of the teachers, they confessed that they had separately been having sexual relationship with her.

The source named the affected teachers as Abdullahi Nura, Muktar, Aminu, Musa and Jafar, as well as an unknown student, who was discovered to be the girl’s boy friend.

When our correspondent visited the school yesterday, the Principal, Muhammed Musa Mahuta was said to be sick.

It was leant that he had been in hospital for few weeks before the incident happened.

But the Vice Principal, Oumar Bankano Woulandakoye, confirmed the incident to newsmen in his office.

He advised that they “wait until the final report of the school board is released,’ adding: “I just received their memo that they are going to seat on the matter tomorrow. May be you could come back by Friday, or next week to get the details,” he said.
