Presidential aspirants on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the South East geo-political zone have begun consensus talks.

Four of the five aspirants met in Abuja, yesterday, after which they declared that they have sealed an agreement to work for a common cause.

Those present at the meeting were the former Anambra State governor, Peter Obi; former President of the Senate, Anyim Pius Anyim; entrepreneur, Mazi Sam Ohuabunwa, and Nwachukwu Anakwenze.

Olivia Diana Teriela was absent from the meeting but, Anyim said more aspirants from the zone would join the team in due course.

Briefing journalists after the meeting Anyim said: “We have agreed to work together as a team. We will work together to ensure that a south easterner emerges as PDP’s flag bearer.”

He disclosed that the team intends to consult with other zones over the party’s presidential ticket, which it said would be done with strict consideration for fairness and equity.

“In doing so, it is important to note that we have always supported other zones and we now expect them to reciprocate,” Anyim said.

The South East aspirants, however, said that they have not been able to arrive at a consensus, but would do that soon.

On whether they were working with the two PDP governors from the South East zone, Anyim said that “only those PDP governors from the South East can answer the question on whether they are with us.”
