President Buhari restates Nigeria’s potential for greatness

• Saraki Joins President At Sultan’s Anniversary Durbar

President Muhammadu Buhari has noted that despite the sundry challenges besetting the country, Nigeria will actualize it’s destiny for greatness, even as he reiterated his commitment to delivering positive changes to the entire country.

President Buhari made the remarks, yesterday in Sokoto, while commissioning a housing estate built by the state government as part of the activities marking the tenth anniversary of the Sultan of Sokoko, Muhammadu Sa’ad Abubakar.

He said: “Looking forward, despite the enormity of the challenges facing us, we are optimistic that by the grace of God, our nation is destined to achieve greatness. Today, economic recession is affecting our economy.

“But we are resolved to overcome the challenges, fight corruption and ensure good governance for the benefit of our citizens. Our administration is poised to bring positive changes to all Nigerians.”

The president commended the Sultan for his invaluable contributions to the development of Nigeria, remarking that the Sultan had consistently proved himself worthy of his ancestors.

“Looking at the galaxy of personalities that came for the anniversary, as well as, people who trooped in from all parts of the country and beyond, for this happy event, it is clear to all that our traditional institutions are playing critical roles in the overall development of our fatherland,” the president added.

President of the Senate, Dr. Bukola Saraki was among the dignitaries that witnessed the grand Durbar held to commemorate the 10th coronation anniversary of Sultan Sa’ad Abubakar III.

More than 3,000 gaily-dressed horse riders drawn from different parts of the country took part in the durbar, which was held at the Sultan’s palace.

Other prominent personalities at the event were former President Olusegun Obasanjo, former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, Speaker, House of Representatives, Yakubu Dogara among others.

Earlier in his address, the host governor, Waziri Aminu Tambuwal, explained that the essence of the durbar was to celebrate the Sultan, for his astute leadership, adding that President Buhari has restored hope to the nation through his fight against corruption and insecurity.

In his brief response, the Sultan reiterated his belief “in a united and indivisible Nigeria,” even as he enjoined all Nigerians to unite and work for sustainable peace and unity in the country.

According to the monarch, Nigerians should be more pious and patriotic to ensure a more prosperous country.

Earlier, the Emir of Kano, Alhaji Muhammadu Sanusi II, who is the chairman of the main organising committee, said the durbar was to celebrate the invaluable contributions of the Sultan to national development.
