To encourage academic excellence, Pedro Primary School Old Students’ Association, ‘83 Set, has rewarded and celebrated outstanding pupils from Primary One to Six.
The ceremony was attended by the school’s head teacher, students, members of staff, parents, distinguished guests and members of the Class of ‘83. In her keynote address, the President of the association, an associate Professor University of Lagos, Dr. Ramat Adisa, said the objective of the recognition was to foster a culture of excellence, and commitment to education, igniting a fame of passion for learning that would continue to burn brightly in the heart of the pupils.
“We are happy to see how our alma mater evolve. This is the first recognition of excellence programme that we are having. The association is about two years old. What prompted the gesture was the decision to motivate the pupils because we believe it will go a long way to ensure the pupils improve in their academic studies. The recipients of the reward will go home with a school bag, uniform and a Certificate of Excellence,” she said.
She congratulated the recipients, while charging them to stand out and be good ambassadors of the school. Adisa noted that “it is crucial to reward academic excellence as this motivates students to work harder in their studies.
“Excellence is very motivational when recognised, most especially in the learning field. It encourages the awardee to do more, likewise encouraging the observers to want to be in such a position of recognition.
The Secretary, Mrs. Mary Aipoh, urged the pupils to study hard to attain success in their academic endeavours.
“Coming back to my alma mater takes me down the memory lane. We are here to celebrate the dedication and unlock the potential to shape a better future. Hard work pays, whether we like it or not. I’m sure when the pupils read for their examinations, they did not know that they would be rewarded. If they had not put in effort and strove to be the best, they would not have benefited from the programme,” she said.
Expressing her gratitude, the School Manager, Mrs. Abodunrin Funmilayo, thanked the Class of ‘83 for their continuous support and commitment of giving back to the school.
