Eulogies were poured on the late first Executive Governor of Delta State, Olorogun Felix Ibru, yesterday during the evening of tributes held at Federal Palace Hotel, Lagos.

Dignitaries who eulogised him included Deputy Senate President Ike Ekweremadu; former Commonwealth Secretary- General, Chief Emeka Anyaoku; Delta State Governor Ifeanyi Okowa; two of his predecessors, Dr. Emmanuel Uduaghan and Air Commodore Louis Ochuno; Prof. Bolaji Akinyemi; Chief Phillip Asiodu; Air Commodore Dan Suleiman and representative of Ogun Governor Ibikunle Amosun, Senator Olarewaju Tejuosho.

Okowa said Ibru left a good legacy with treasurable and unflinching values and transformed the lives of many Urhobo and Delta State people. He urged his family to find solace in his outstanding contributions to the development of his state and Nigeria.

Uduaghan said: “In one of our interactions, he told me he didn’t venture into business, like his other siblings, because he wanted to serve his people and Nigeria. He served as governor, senator, and President General of Urhobo Progress Union (UPU). He was so humble. As President of UPU, he worked for the unity of Urhobo and Delta people.”

Ochuno said Ibru’s humility was remarkable. He noted that while Ibru was governor, Delta had peace but that the reverse is the situation today, as “the state is experiencing violence.”
