Fire, yesterday, gutted studios of Nigeria’s first full HD Television, Hi-Impact TV in Ibafo, Ogun State.

Fire, yesterday, gutted studios of Nigeria’s first full HD Television, Hi-Impact TV in Ibafo, Ogun State.

Although no life was lost in the inferno, properties worth millions of naira were destroyed.

The Guardian learnt that the fire, which started about 8:30a.m, was caused by a power surge.

But for prompt arrival of the police, men of Ogun State and Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG) fire services, who were able to put out the fire, it could have spread to other sections of the facility.

It was also learnt that staff of the TV station and Hi-Impact Planet Amusement Park & Resort rose to the occasion by curtailing the fire before the arrival of fire fighters.

A source, identified as Tope, said the fire started when the electric box sparked, which engulfed the whole studio and burned it into ashes.

But a senior police officer from Ibafo Police Station, who spoke to The Guardian in confidence, said the source of the inferno was yet to be ascertained.

He also confirmed that no life was lost in the incident, while the situation had been brought under control, though there were a lot of damages.

He said: “Policemen from Ibafo Police Station were on ground to avert further spread of the fire.

“It happened around 8:30 this morning. Other patrol vehicles were around, with two fire servicemen and we were able to put out the fire. Though there was a lot of damage, no life was lost.

“The cause of the fire was unknown, but the situation has been brought under control,” he added.

Also, the Managing Director, Solution Media & Infotech, Mr. Adeyeloye Lipede, in a statement, said the cause of the fire was yet to be ascertained.

According to him, the television station is an arm of Solution Media & Infotech and operates from the premises of Hi-Impact Planet Amusement Park & Resort, located at Ibafo, Ogun State.

He stressed that staffers of the TV station and amusement park rose to the occasion to ensure that the resort is still intact.

Lipede also said normal summer activities at the park have been scheduled to resume soon.
