Proprietor urges freshmen to be focused, disciplined
Founder and Chairman Governing Council, Heritage Polytechnic Eket, Akwa Ibom State, Dr. Emmanuel Ekott has urged students in tertiary institutions to be focused, hardworking and study hard to acquire knowledge rather than just obtaining certificates.
Ekott who stated this at the 9th matriculation ceremony of the institution said most students are studying mainly to get certificate, which they will tender, to their ‘god fathers’ for lucrative jobs and position rather than acquiring knowledge.
He warned that the institution would not tolerate any act of examination malpractice and cultism while urging parents to advise their wards on the need to shun violence.
“The problems confronting the society is hinged on the fact that people join cultism at the primary and secondary school levels, so it becomes difficult to prevent them from joining at the tertiary level. Let me sound a note of warning to all students that the management will not tolerate any act of examination malpractice and cultism. This is a private institution and I shall do everything within the law to deal with cultists. Heritage Polytechnic is not a cult centre and cultists must steer clear.”
Ekott added that graduates from the institution are excelling in their choosing fields, adding that the favourable reports from employers of labour showed that academic and moral standards for the institution have stood the test of time.
