Protest: Yusuf alleges plot to unleash violence in Kano

Kano State Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf has alleged a plan by political actors to hijack the hunger mass protest to unleash terror on businesses and innocent citizens.

The Governor alleged that intelligence had revealed the perpetrators intended to match on the streets of Kano with a red cap to cause mayhem.

Yusuf raised the alarm Wednesday while addressing traditional and religious leaders, the business community, and other critical stakeholders on the planned mass protest in the country.

The governor maintained the protesters are empowered under the constitution of Nigeria to register their displeasure against hunger and poverty in Nigeria, he reminded of an orchestrated move to hijack the demonstration.

He noted that the government would not obstruct any peaceful protest to demand good governance, and however, said security agencies have been directed to deal with any group found to cause crisis during the protest.

Yusuf stressed that “I would be willing to welcome the leaders of the protesters especially those with genuine intention for dialogue on best solution to addressing the economic challenges in the country.

“We are not against any plan protest aimed at demanding good governance. We are aware of the prevailing poverty and hunger in the land. But any protest deliberately plan to cause mayhem in Kano will not to allowed.

“I will be in Kano and remain in the government house throughout the period of protest. I will be willing to receive the protesters and if the need be, I am ready to meet them on the street to listen and receive their demands. I promise to deliver their message to Mr. President for urgent attention.”

On food inflation, the Governor pledged to introduce a policy on price control of goods to ease the prevailing hunger and poverty in Kano.

He appealed to the business community to consider the plight of the masses in the price of their goods.
