The Police Service Commission (PSC) and the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) have extended the ongoing recruitment of 50,000 police constables by two weeks following what officials describe as “significant disparities” in applications across states.
The extension follows the receipt of over 400,000 applications since the portal opened on December 15, 2025. In a statement issued yesterday, the Head of Protocol and Public Affairs of the PSC, Mr Torty Njoku Kalu, announced that the application deadline has now been shifted to February 8, 2026.
While Northern and North-Central states, such as Adamawa, Benue, and Kaduna, reportedly recorded high numbers of applicants, major Southern states, including Lagos, Ogun, Bayelsa, Ebonyi, and Anambra, showed notably low participation, an outcome that has raised eyebrows, given their population sizes and persistent security challenges.
According to Kalu, the extension is intended to promote “equitable representation” in the police force.
The PSC and NPF have now shifted the burden to state governments, local councils, traditional institutions, religious bodies, and sociocultural organisations, urging them to mobilise and sensitise eligible youths within their jurisdictions to apply before the new deadline via the official portal, www.npfapplication.psc.gov.ng.
Despite the concerns, the PSC and NPF have reiterated their commitment to a “fair and transparent” recruitment process, stressing that no state will be marginalised.
