The Police Service Commission (PSC) has officially inaugurated its Anti-Corruption and Transparency Unit (ACTU) today.

The ceremony was led by a delegation from the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC), headed by Olusegun Adigun, who represented ICPC Chairman, Dr. Musa Adamu Aliyu, SAN.

The inauguration, announced in a statement by Ikechukwu Ani, Head of Press and Public Relations, marks a significant step in reinforcing accountability within the PSC.

In his address, PSC Chairman DIG Hashimu Argungu (rtd.) urged the newly appointed members of the ACTU to perform their duties impartially, free from tribal or religious biases.

He emphasized the importance of integrity, even encouraging them to hold him accountable if they discover any financial misconduct on his part.

“Come and confront me if you hear that I have diverted money. Don’t hesitate to hold me accountable for any financial infractions,” Argungu declared, calling on the team to act against corruption without fear or favor.

The ICPC representative, Olusegun Adigun, explained that ACTU is a Federal Government initiative designed to serve as an internal mechanism to prevent corruption within Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs).

He highlighted its role in promoting transparency and accountability in line with global best practices.

Adigun noted that ACTU would be crucial in achieving the PSC’s vision of becoming a professional, disciplined, and accountable institution.

He clarified that the unit is not meant to function as a parallel authority but as a complementary body working under the direct oversight of the PSC Chairman to foster good governance.

DIG Taiwo Lakanu, a Commissioner at the PSC, pledged the Commission’s support to ensure the unit’s success, emphasizing the importance of cooperation in making the PSC corruption-free.

The newly appointed Chairman of PSC’s ACTU, Nasidi Yusuf, is committed to upholding principles of integrity, transparency, and zero tolerance for corruption.

He also emphasized the need for collaboration with ICPC and other stakeholders to develop effective anti-corruption strategies and monitor progress within the Commission.

The inauguration sets a new precedent in the fight against corruption within the PSC, reinforcing the Commission’s commitment to transparency and accountability in its operations.
