PSC sacks Jonathan’s former CSO, promotes 8,185 officers

Air Force okays promotion of 60 senior personnel

Police Service Commission (PSC) has asked the former Chief Security Officer to President Goodluck Jonathan, Abdulkareem Dauda, to vacate office with effect from January 2020 for extending his stay in service after a mandatory 30 years.

Arising from its 13th plenary meeting in Abuja, yesterday, the Commission also asked Dauda to refund all salaries received since January 2020 when he was supposed to have exited the service but continued under claims that Jonathan had approved his extension.

Briefing the media on decisions reached, the spokesperson for the Commission, Austin Brymo, said: “A very important appeal you may like to know is one from a Commissioner of Police (Dauda), who got his tenure extended by the former Inspector General of Police and equally appealed for a promotion. But going through the record, this board discovered that the Commissioner’s extension did not follow due process.”
ALSO, the Commission elevated 8,184 police officers to various positions.

Given the breakdown, Brymo said two Assistant Inspectors General of Police were promoted to the position of Deputy Inspectors General. Six Commissioners of Police were promoted to the rank of Assistant Inspectors General and 17 others were promoted to the rank of Commissioners.

The Commission also moved 24 Commissioners to Deputy Commissioners; 29 Chief Superintendents to Assistant Superintendents; 74 Superintendents were promoted to the rank of Chief Superintendents; 866 Deputy Superintendents were given the rank of Superintendents.

On decisions reached in the case of Deputy Commissioner of Police, Abba Kyari, Brymo said the Commission was yet to deliberate on the case but the matter could be tabled at the next plenary in January 2022.

Also affected in the promotions is a couple, Kehinde Longe and Yetunde Longe, who was moved to Commissioners of Police.

MEANWHILE, the Air Force Council (AFC) has approved the promotion of 60 senior officers comprising 29 Air Vice Marshals (AVMs) and 31 Air Commodores to the next ranks in the Nigerian Air Force (NAF).

Director of Public Relations and Information (DOPRI), Nigerian Air Force, Air Commodore Edward Gabkwet, said the Council also approved the concessional commission of an Air Warrant Officer (AWO) and five Master Warrant Officers (MWO) to the rank of Flight Lieutenant.

The newly-promoted officers will be decorated at a later date.
