The Parent Teacher Association of the Federal Science and Technical College in Yaba said it would deliver a 1000-bed space hostel to the school before the end of February.

The Chairperson of the association, Mrs Oby Igwillo, disclosed this in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Lagos on Friday.

According to her, the project is aimed at cushioning the effect of the acute accommodation challenge facing the college.

She said that an enabling environment must put in place for education to shape the future of Nigerian children.
Igwillo said the association had task its members to assist the institution with befitting accommodation for female students in order to enhance academic excellence.

She assured that the PTA would continue to support the institution in finding a lasting solution to the inadequate learning infrastructure needed to meet the increasing student population in the school.

“We are the biggest in terms of population in all the unity colleges in the country.

“Presently, we are battling with inadequate hostel accommodation, classrooms, staff quarters and other facilities needed for 21st century learning.

“Ordinarily, all students, especially the JSS1 and the SSS3 students should be resident in the school, but we don’t have enough facilities to accommodate them,’’ she said.

She appealed to corporate organisations and public spirited individuals to partner the school in solving some challenges facing the 67-year old institution.
