…As new acting controller pledges integrity driven reforms
The Port & Terminal Multi-services Limited (PTML) Area Command of the Nigeria Customs Service has recorded a major revenue milestone of ₦181 billion, even as Deputy Comptroller Nura Miko assumes office as the new Acting Customs Area Controller with a pledge to strengthen integrity, compliance, and efficient trade facilitation.
Miko officially took over the leadership of the Command on Monday, 25 May 2026, and immediately outlined a reform-focused agenda anchored on collaboration, due process, and transparency in port operations.
Addressing officers and stakeholders during his inaugural remarks, the Acting Controller emphasized a leadership style rooted in teamwork rather than intimidation, noting that sustaining efficiency at the command would require cooperation across all levels.
He stressed that integrity would remain a core principle under his leadership, while trade facilitation and strict adherence to established procedures would guide operational decisions. He further called on officers to embrace synergy as a key driver of performance improvement.
Miko also pledged to build on existing achievements within the command while deepening reforms aimed at improving compliance, accelerating cargo clearance processes, and enhancing overall operational efficiency. He highlighted inter-agency collaboration as critical to achieving broader objectives in revenue generation, national security, and trade facilitation.
In his farewell remarks, outgoing Customs Area Controller, Comptroller Joe Anani, reflected on his eight-month tenure, describing it as a period of consolidation and institutional strengthening.
He noted that his administration built on reforms under the Unified Customs Management System (UCMS), also known as B’Odogwu, which contributed significantly to the modernization of operations at the command.
Anani highlighted key achievements during his leadership, including improved stakeholder confidence in port processes and the attainment of one-hour clearance for compliant vehicle imports.
The Command held a send-forth ceremony in honour of the outgoing Controller, where officers, stakeholders, and members of the Customs Officers Wives Association (COWA) presented tributes and gifts in recognition of his service and contributions to the command’s performance.
