Plateau State Commissioner of Information and Communication, Hon. Joyce Ramnap, yesterday disclosed that Diphtheria is not only a disease of the children as a 45-year old person also died of the disease yesterday.

Ramnap said that 27 people are now confirmed dead by the disease as the cases are now 303.

The commissioner stated this yesterday at the Plateau State Council Report presented at the Trennial Delegates Conference held yesterday at the NUJ Press Centre in Jos.

Ramnap said she was happy to be around as the main function of journalism is to disseminate information, adding that their contributions to nation building will not be taken for granted.

She was happy that all journalists wore face masks in compliance with Diphtheria and thanked NUJ for compliance.

The General Officer Commanding (GOC) 3 Division of the Nigerian Army, Rukuba Barracks, Jos, Major General Maxwell Dangana, through the Media Information Officer (MIO) of the Special Task Force (STF), Captain Chinonso Polycarp Oteh, said that the various operations they are embarking upon will not be totally successful without the support of the Nigerian Union of Journalists (NUJ).

Dangana added that the country as a whole will not be in its present position without NUJ support.

The Nigeria Labour Congress, the Trade Union Congress and the Radio and Television and Theatre Workers Union (RATTAWU) were represented and expressed confidence in the NUJ.

After three years of service, all the members of the EXCO of NUJ Plateau State Council were returned unopposed at an election supervised by the National NUJ Zone D Vice President Momohjimoh Adeiza and Secretary Dauda Mohammed having been screened by the Credentials Committee Chairman, Zainab Babaji.

Having been declared unopposed as duly elected for the next three years, they took oath of allegiance conducted by a lawyer, Adama Atong Galadima, Esq.

The newly elected Chairman and Secretary of NUJ, Comrade Ayuku Pwaspo and Comrade Mary Replong Domtur, in their acceptance speech said that they have accepted the confidence reposed in them, promising that they will not disappoint the electorate.

They all stressed that they will place more emphasis on the welfare of journalists in the state.
