Qatar Charity donates foodstuff to Sokoto orphans, needy

Qatar Charity, a charitable and non-profit organisation in Nigeria, has donated foodstuff to orphans, physically challenged and less privileged persons in Sokoto State.

The Organisation’s Head of Social Affairs, Mr. Shu’aibu Atiku, disclosed this to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Wednesday in Sokoto.

Atiku said no fewer than 547 persons benefited including Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs), adding that the distribution had been completed and beneficiaries had returned to their respective destination.

He said that the gesture was aimed at cushioning the current hardship faced by the people.

The head of social affairs noted that the beneficiaries were part of the 5,030 persons selected for support by the organisation across the country.

Atiku explained that items distributed included, rice, beans, semovita, vegetable oil, sugar and detergent in different categories, adding that the beneficiaries were graded based on quantity.

According to him, the distribution exercise was witnessed by Sokoto State Commissioner for Religious Affairs, Dr. Jabir Maihula, who described the initiative as a welcome development in view of the condition of some vulnerable persons in the society.

He explained that Maihula commended the initiative which he said had augmented the state government’s support programmes.

“Maihila welcomed the initiative especially that it has been supporting IDPs and other less privileged persons with food items, clothes, medication and other assistance periodically,” Atiku observed.

The officer urged the beneficiaries to use the items to support their families and reiterated the organisation’s commitment to providing more assistance.
