The Katsina State Elders Forum (KSEF) has said Governor Dikko Radda’s investment in the security sector is beginning to yield the desired results, especially in security-prone local government areas of the state.

The forum’s Secretary, Aliyu Mohammed, made this known while speaking with The Guardian.

Mohammed particularly commended the setting up of the Katsina State Community Watch Corps (KTSCWC), also known as CWC, which complements the efforts of conventional security personnel.

He said before now, that attacks by bandits used to be daily, with attendant loss of lives, abductions, and rustling of animals.

He, however, said such attacks had subsided in recent times with several of the bandits decimated by security operatives in collaboration with CWC personnel.

“You know the governor is serious on the issue of security. He can spend anything and he can go to any extent. What he wants is the safety of the people. That is why he set up the CWC,” he said.

“The CWC operatives are indigenes of the local government areas they operate in, and they have to protect their people. They are making a lot of sacrifices. They are trying their best.

“But the CWC cannot do it alone. They have to work together with conventional security operatives” to tackle insecurity in the frontline councils.”

Mohammed said with the collaboration between conventional security personnel and CWC, severe bandits operating in the state have been significantly decimated.

“Some of them (bandits) have run away due to too much fire, and all this is because of the efforts of the Air Force, Army, and other security agencies, including CWC,” he said.

“The governor did his best, and it is good to commend him for making huge investment on security. People have been relieved a lot recent.

“Before, attacks used to be on a daily basis, with people killed or kidnapped in the process. But now, we can go for seven days with no attacks or abductions.

“So, on average, we can say that there had been a reduction in cases of attacks by bandits in the state.”
