Christian and Islamic leaders in Kaduna State have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) tagged, ‘In Support Of A Crisis-free 2023 General Elections In Southern Kaduna’.

Signing the pact, yesterday, in Kafanchan, Kaduna State, members of Southern Kaduna Christian Leaders Association (SKCLA) and the Southern Kaduna Council of Imams and Ulamas (SKCIU) also pledged to expose and ensure the prosecution of troublemakers during the polls.

While Emmanuel Kure signed on behalf of SKCLA, Muhammad Kassim signed for SKCIU.

Kure told newsmen after the signing: “Having identified stakeholders that are committed to the promotion of peaceful co-existence among communities in Southern Kaduna, the leaders undertook to sign this MOU as a mark of their commitment towards sustaining peaceful coexistence for progress before, during and after the February and March 2023 general elections.

“By working together at both the strategic and operational levels, SKCLA and SKCIU, with their followers, collectively and individually agree to ensure crisis-free elections. Even if crisis erupts in other places, we will jointly ensure that it does not consume Southern Kaduna and that our members are not involved.”

SIMILARLY, Borno State pilgrims to Israel and Jordan have been charged with praying for peaceful and credible elections in Nigeria.

According to the pilgrims, it was an opportunity for the church to pray for peace during the coming elections.

While leading the 101 pilgrims, on Sunday, to the holy sites in Jordan, the Auxiliary Bishop of Maiduguri Catholic Diocese, John Bakeni, disclosed: “Governor Babagana Zulum is dedicated to the building of faith by sponsoring 101 persons for the 2023 Christian pilgrimage to Israel and Jordan.”

According to him, participation of Christians in the pilgrimage will enable them to renew their faith in the worship of God.

Urging them to make the best of the opportunity and consider themselves as pilgrims, instead of tourists in the two countries, he commended the governor for giving them the opportunity to renew their faith.

He added: “I applaud the Deputy Governor, Usman Kadafur, for ensuring that the 2023 pilgrimage is hitch-free for the Christians in the state.”

Former Head of Service (HOS), Simon Malgwi, also congratulated the pilgrims for making it to the holy land.

Malgwi noted that having read a lot from the Bible, including the privileges to the holy city, his faith has been strengthened.
