As Leah Sharibu marks seven years in captivity, the Gideon and Funmi Para-Mallam Peace Foundation has appealed to the international community to intensify diplomatic efforts for her release.
Leah, one of the 110 schoolgirls kidnapped from Dapchi, Yobe State, on February 19, 2018, by the Boko Haram terrorist group, remains the only victim still held captive after 2,557 days.
Speaking yesterday in Jalingo, Taraba State, on the anniversary of her abduction, the foundation’s Executive Director, Gideon Para-Mallam, expressed deep concern over the silence of President Bola Tinubu’s administration regarding Leah’s plight.
He urged the government to build on the previous administration’s efforts to secure Leah’s release.
Para-Mallam also appealed to First Lady Oluremi Tinubu, calling on her to act as a mother and use every legitimate means to reunite the captive with her parents.
Referencing Pakistani activist Malala Yousafzai’s case, the ED stressed the need for a collective outcry across religious and ethnic lines to demand Leah’s freedom.
