Rep attributes victory to confidence, trust of electorate

Mr Dauda Kako-Are (AP-Mushin 1 Federal Constituency), has attributed his re-election to the trust and confidence the electorate in his constituency reposed in him.

Kako-Are, a former member of the All Progressives Congress (APC), defected to Accord Party in 2014, after he lost his bid to re-contest under the APC.

Kako-Are told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Lagos on Monday that he was able to build the trust of the electorate due to his closeness and understanding of their needs.

“Because of our past records, they came out to vote for us en-masse, and we won, and we want to thank the people of Mushin.

“As to the upcoming politicians, just know that people that gave you their mandate; it is a trust that you don’t have to abuse, once you don’t abuse that trust, they keep staying with you.

“They want to see you, they want to know you can solve their problems.

“The free school ride for instance, it is a programme that allows school children to go to school to and fro.

“We have taken the students on a lot of excursions; we have taken them on holiday lessons, too.

“During Ileya (Sallah celebration), we take them to Offa, Ilorin, Ibadan, Abeokuta; during the Christmas and New Year (celebrations), we convey them to Onitsha.’’

He commended the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for introducing the card reader machines which, he said, made the election process in the constituency free and fair for the first time.

“We want to thank the INEC for introducing the card reader machines, because with the card reader, I am sure a lot of people in the constituency, (Mushin), will agree was the first real election that we ever had.

“Although the turnout was limited by the performance of the card readers, but it is still a very good system.’’

NAN reports that Kako-Are began his political era with the Alliance for Democracy as a member of the Lagos State House of Assembly in 1999.
