Reps Aspirant Ajibola cries out over alleged denial of ticket

All Progressives Congress (APC)

A fresh controversy has erupted within the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Oyo State as a House of Representatives aspirant, Hon. Ishaq Morufat Ajibola, has petitioned the party over the alleged refusal to recognise her as the winner of its primary election, demanding the immediate issuance of her Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) nomination forms.

Ajibola, who is seeking to represent Ibadan Northeast/Ibadan Southeast Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, said she emerged victorious in the APC primary election held on May 16, 2026, but has yet to receive the documents required to formalise her candidature for the 2027 general election.

In a petition dated July 13, 2026, and addressed to the Oyo State APC Chairman, with copies to the party’s National Chairman, National Secretary and National Women Leader, the aspirant urged the party to immediately recognise her as its duly elected candidate and issue all relevant nomination documents.

The petition, titled “Petition and Demand for the Issuance of My INEC Candidate Nomination Form Following My Victory at the APC House of Representatives, National Assembly Primary Election held on 16th May, 2026,” alleged that despite being declared winner of the primary election, the party had failed to complete the process by providing her with the required INEC nomination forms.

Ajibola maintained that she was duly screened and cleared by the APC to participate in the primary election, which she said was conducted in line with the party’s constitution, guidelines and other applicable regulations governing the nomination of candidates.

According to her, the party’s electoral committee collated and announced the results, declaring her winner after she secured victory in both Ibadan Northeast Local Government Area and Ibadan Southeast Local Council Development Area.

She expressed concern that several weeks after the exercise, she remained without the nomination forms, while, according to her, other successful APC candidates had already received theirs.

“The continued withholding of my nomination form is not only prejudicial to my rights as the duly elected candidate of the Party but also capable of frustrating the mandate freely given to me by Party members during the primary election,” she stated.

Ajibola said she had exercised restraint and remained loyal to the APC despite the situation, choosing to seek an internal resolution rather than take steps that could embarrass the party.

She added that the petition was intended to provide the party leadership with an opportunity to address the matter amicably before she considered pursuing other lawful remedies available to her.

The aspirant called on the APC leadership to immediately confirm her status as the party’s candidate for the constituency, issue all relevant INEC nomination forms and nomination documents, and urgently resolve any administrative or procedural issues responsible for the delay.

She also gave the party a seven-day ultimatum from the date of receipt of the petition to comply with her demands, warning that any further delay could cause irreparable prejudice to her candidature and affect her preparations for the 2027 elections.

Ajibola expressed confidence that the APC leadership would uphold the principles of fairness, internal democracy and respect for the outcome of duly conducted primary elections by resolving the dispute without further delay.

The petition is the latest development in the controversy surrounding the APC House of Representatives primary for Ibadan Northeast/Ibadan Southeast Federal Constituency, as party stakeholders await the leadership’s response to her demands.
