Reps orders probe of N96b SIF funds
The House of Representatives has ordered investigation of the N96b Special Intervention Funds (SIF) disbursed to Federal Government Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) between 2015 and 2020.
Consequently, the House set up an Ad-hoc Committee to probe the issue initiated by Henry Nwawuba during plenary presided by the Speaker, Femi Gbajabiamila.
Nwawuba expressed concern that there was nothing to justify that such amount of money was disbursed within the period, saying: “The House is concerned that despite the huge amount of money invested, citizens continue to experience hardship.
“Despite the huge loans to boost the economy, the country still slipped into a second recession in less than five years. The agencies in charge of disbursing some of the special funds are unable to properly account for how the funds were used.”
He disclosed that most of the funds were not captured in the Appropriation processes, and as such, the National Assembly was not aware of the allocations.
