• Governor Lalong appeals for calm
The House of Representatives has directed the Inspector General of Police, Ibrahim Idris, to fish out the killers of the paramount ruler of Bokkos, his Royal Majesty, the Saf Ron Kulere, Dah Lazarus Amashin Agai.
Adopting the prayers of a motion of urgent national importance by Solomon Bulus Maren, the House also tasked the police and other security agencies to immediately deploy men to the area, to forestall breakdown of law and order.
Meanwhile, youths of Bokkos Local government Area (LGA), yesterday, defied a curfew imposed by the state government and staged a violent protest over the killing.
Brandishing dangerous weapons, they stormed the streets and set some buildings on fire. They also prevented security operatives from entering Bokkos LGA, putting to flight journalists and the security operatives.
Tension remains high in the area, as the youths have vowed they would avenge the killing of the traditional ruler.
Plateau State governor, Simon Lalong, in a statement signed by Director of Press and Public Affairs, Mr. Samuel Emmanuel Nanle, said government is on top of the situation and would fish out enemies of peace in the state. He urged citizens to remain calm and avoid acts that could aggravate the situation.
Dah Lazarus Amashin Agai was killed on Monday by suspected herdsmen in an attack, which also claimed the lives of his son, daughter-in-law, orderly, and a relative.
In a voice laden with emotion, Maren, while moving the motion, decried incessant killings in Plateau, adding that if the development is not immediately checked, the situation could degenerate further.
He told parliament that the killing is one of many that have occurred in the area in recent times. “First, it was the Makai Forof Dah Ali Magaji, sometimes in January 2016. The second was the District head of Manguna, Saf Anjong Adake, who was the secretary to the council of chiefs, Bokkos Local Government Area. And the worst, which occurred yesterday (Monday), is the head of the council and the paramount ruler of Bokkos people, who was brutally killed by unscrupulous persons,” said Maren.
