Urges Yoruba monarchs to protect stool

The Aare Ona Kakanfo of Yorubaland, Iba Gani Adams, has again called on President Bola Tinubu to start the process of restructuring Nigeria to true federalism.

Adams, who spoke in Ira, Kwara State, during the 2024 edition of the Oya Festival, said restructuring is the only panacea to solving the structural imbalances in Nigeria. He stressed the need for Nigeria to go back to regionalism where each region would be allowed to develop at its own pace.

The Yoruba generalissimo stated also that the idea of having a more powerful and centralist government is a true reflection of statism, which gives huge power solely to the Federal Government, adding that such a political arrangement is not too good for a country like Nigeria.

Meanwhile, the Guest Speaker, Gbadamosi Kazeem, an engineer from the Federal Polytechnic, Offa, spoke about the humility displayed by Oya as the wife of Sango. He highlighted the need for women to be humble and courageous, drawing inspiration from Oya’s great virtues.

The Onira of Ira, Oba Abdul Oyetoro, who expressed appreciation to Gani Adams for promoting the cultural identity of Yoruba, said the Ira community would continue to support Adams in his cultural promotion agenda.

Also, the Chairman of the day, Kehinde Arowolo, who is the Chief Executive Officer, of White Flag Hotel, Ilorin, urged sons and daughters of Ira to support the Oodua Peoples Congress (OPC) to ensure peace and progress in Ira.
