Engineer killed in Ado Ekiti day after state’s police paymaster was murdered

A police Corporal, Mr. Solomon Sunday, who was suspected to be a secret cult member, was killed at Aule area of Akure, Ondo State by some armed men alleged to be cult members.

The 30-year-old corporal, Sunday, until his tragic demise, was attached to the Okuta Elerinla Division of the Ondo State Police Command.

The Guardian learnt that the incident occurred on Sunday night, bringing the number of cult killings in Akure metropolis to three.

But the Police Public Relations Officer, Mr. Femi Joseph, who confirmed the incident, dispelled the secret cult allegation and disclosed that the command had begun investigation over it.

“We have begun investigation into the matter. It is a real murder case. However, we can’t confirm if he belonged to a secret cult. But as I said, we are still investigating,” Joseph said.

Nevertheless, one of the residents, who pleaded anonymity, said the deceased was attacked on his was back from work on Sunday night. He said Sunday was shot several times by his assailants, alleging that the deceased police corporal was a member of a secret cult.

“He is one of the cult members. May be it was the rival cult group that trailed and killed. I can’t say yet why he was killed,” he said.

In another development, an engineer, Kunle Enisan, was found dead a few meters away from his house in Ado Ekiti on Monday night, 24 hours after the gruesome murder of the paymaster of the Ekiti State Police Command, Mr Idowu Taiwo, by unknown gunmen.

Taiwo, was found dead on Monday morning with his hands tied to the back in a car in Ajilosun area after being kidnapped on Sunday night by unknown gunmen.

Enisan, a father of two and an employee of Ido/Osi Local Council of Ekiti State, was killed around 8.15pm on Monday at Housing Estate along Afao road. His death sparked agitation among residents who queried the security situation in the state.

Narrating how the incident happened, the deceased’s in-law, Adeoye Aribasoye, a lawyer, said the victim was returning home with his wife in his car before having a stopover on the way where the wife headed home through an alternative means.

Aribasoye said: “When it was 9pm, the wife became agitated because the deceased does not keep late night. The wife started looking for him. Just a few metres away from home, she and the search party saw his car parked and the doors were open. They saw his lifeless body close to where his car was parked.”

Aribasoye said the police, upon reporting the matter by the family, visited to extract first hand information. “The wife is my younger sister. The people of the state are no longer safe. The security is nothing to write home about.

“We believe it was a clear case of assassination because nothing was taken away from the car but we only saw some documents scattered on the ground. Kidnapping and assassination are rampant now and Ayo Fayose’s government must be proactive to arrest the situation,” he said.

The Ekiti Police Public Relations Officer, Mr. Alberto Adeyemi, confirmed the incident, saying detectives were already on the trail of the perpetrators of the nefarious act.

He disclosed that the Commissioner of Police, Mr. Wilson Inalegwu, had ordered a stop and search operation in all major highways in Ekiti.
